Some of you wanted updates on my budget Amazon bed liner. Here you go!
It’s been a little over two months, and the liner is in pretty rough shape. It served it’s intended purpose admirably, but long-term durability is suspect.
Now to be fair.... Only one layer was sprayed. And you were supposed to wait 7(!!!) days before using the bed, I think I waited 4 days?
I sprayed another truck bed a month ago, this time doing 3 full layers, and waiting the full 7 days. It’s still in perfect shape. I believe I spent about $150 for the supplies, so assuming this lasts it’s a hell of a deal. I’ll update you all in a few months.
Oh, and modern pickups make terrible work trucks. They’re way too tall. Loading height with the tailgate down is bad, reaching over the side of the bed is even worse, and dealing with ladders? Absolutely miserable. It makes me so sad that you can’t buy a new truck that’s actually built for work, as apposed to just being bigly and towing 100,000 pounds, fitting 18 Mega Gulp Slurpies, and being able to drive over massive ravines that aren’t actually a part of 99% of jobsites. I would happily trade this Silverado for a new 2001 Ranger.... Sigh.
I've actually been using a coworkers late 80's dodge pickup. No clue what it is, but it's super low, and super compact. It's been such a joy. Fits everywhere, easy to park, perfect visibility in all directions, easy to load, a million tie-off points (that's another thing, a Work Truck spec Silverado has the worst tie-offs I've ever used...)

Spray on exterior of the Miata. Rust proof

Not in Seattle. I see mint Protege5's on the daily

Your position must be part of the reason that Rangers go for so dang much in the PNW. My early 90s full-size Chevy’s bed is almost too high to be useful , but not quite (though maybe it helps that I’m tall).

... congratulations, you have been nominated to look at a car in Monroe for me? Pretty please?

Possibly. Last I checked there were over 8 00 licensed window washing businesses in the Seattle area, and god knows how many unlicensed. Multiply that by the various other trades out there... Yep. We probably account for a bit.
I'm tall too, but I need a step stool just to remove ladders from the Silverado :(

Nice try, but I saw your PPI list. Hard pass.
Besides, my most recent personal car purchases were a salvage title Miata with over 300,000 miles, and a super boosted Volvo that’s broken down multiple times and c ost me over $2k in repairs within the first week. I’m probably not your ideal candidate

That’s another reason I love my little Dakota RT, I also lowered it with the hotckis springs and it makes it super easy to load and unload. I don’t get how people use new trucks for hauling stuff in the bed. Way too tall.

My 1984 Dodge Rampage has crappy towing rating, but a larger payload capacity than my bosses 2017 F150. It fits my Enduro bike in the back and I can offload it without ramps, and load it using a tiny depression for the truck OR a slight hill for the bike. Decent on gas, and happily cruises the highways at 130kph (80mph).

yeah I hear on the new trucks being too tall, I looked at new pickups a year or so ago and for me to be happy with a new truck I would have to do at least a 6" drop, I don’t like having to need a stool to just climb in, lol.
My 68 C10 has already been lowered about 2" all the way around its almost perfect, when I swap to disc brakes in the front I will drop it another 2" all the way around.

TLDR, ya get what you pay for? Thanks for the feedback, I was considering that product for my truck but fuck that.

Yeah the new ones are cray high for anyone, including me

Pfft, you’re local. You’re perfect. And 95% of it is just knowing context, not looking for anything you wouldn’t on any other car. Oh, and taking pictures of the underside. Once I’ve got photos and a general description I know whether or not to sink money into a full blown PPI. Plus I’m happy to toss some cash your way if you like.
Mostly I’m concerned with the underside photos and how bad the interior actually is. The rest I can make an actual PPI person do because “bitch I paid you extra for it!”

hard they are to kill.

It may be okay if you do multiple coats and let sit for the full seven days but... I'd look at other options. Especially considering this was on a pristine, never-used bed with perfect prep

Heh, by position I meant “set of opinions” and not “occupation,” though I guess it works both ways.

Ha. Also true. As much as I loved my two old workhorse Rangers, I will say that they nickle and dime’ d me. Never anything catastrophic, but minor issues were incredibly common... I think if I did it over again I’d try a Toyota?

I’m 6’3” and think the new F150 my dad had was to high to easily load stuff on and out of the bed or to just climb up into the bed.

Seriously, why are modern pickups so hard to load? It’s not like the wheels are even that large diameter. Large differentials or something maybe, to handle the ridiculously overpowered engines needed to drag 13,000 pound trailers up the Davis Dam, and to win the Grand Prix du Stoplight?
